Our first experience at Bistro Garden in Studio City was nothing short of magical. Walking up the entry steps past fragrant blooming flowers and a bubbling fountain, we were instantly taken to a place of tranquility. As we walked in through tall, white French doors we were quickly enchanted. A dimly lit cozy lounge was full of patrons, but a lone table for two closest to a wood-grain coffee colored Baby Grand stood out amongst the evening crowd. It seemed to welcome our presence as if it had been reserved for us solely by the hands of fate.

We finally sat, engulfed and whisked away to another time – another place, by the melodious intonations escaping the nearby delicately played piano. The song was one my husband and I knew well. One which made us smile at one another like we did the day we met and knew we were meant to be together.

Overhead lights had long since been dimmed as the sun set beyond the California hills. Votive candles in clear glass holders flickered on café tables donned with crisp white tablecloths, while the scent of fresh flowers wafted through the air at certain intervals, as if on cue. It was one of those enchanting moments one remembers forever. It welcomed us. It invited us in. It was as though it was meant to be.
The garden-like dining room is enhanced with live plants and numerous potted trees and flowers in every direction one looks. Mirrors complement the appearance, and a trellis-style thirty-foot ceiling of glass skylights allows for natural light to saturate the space during the day. In the evenings, lighted trees come alive and enhance the entire environment while you dine, seemingly creating the perception of dining outside under the stars. Live music can be heard from the lounge and provides an excellent extension to any dining experience.

Since that first night at the Bistro Garden lounge, we’ve been unable to separate ourselves from it. Not only are the cuisine, atmosphere and service superb and without flaws, but on Wednesdays you can be swept away by piano master David Wilson.
This incredibly talented “magician of the keys” tickles the ivories and delights the soul as he enhances, enlightens, and inspires the lives of patrons who visit from 6-10 P.M. Accepting requests and playing favorite melodies in his smooth classic style, David truly harnesses the romance of music in his playing.

Not only does he enjoy and possess an ongoing love for the piano, but you can also relish in his artistry and unparalleled expertise from his violin proficiency on any one of his ten albums! The extensive array of melodies David plays, from Cole Porter to Henry Mancini, his original compositions to romantic standards and seductive lounge pieces, he will make you fall in love with what you hear.

The atmosphere of Bistro Garden is relaxing, sophisticated, romantic and alluring. I would find it hard to believe that anyone could feel anything but at home here. The bar itself is a sight to behold. The mahogany stunner with its eclectic décor and classic characteristics makes one wonder about the stories it’s been witness to in years gone by. A carved bust of Napoleon keeps a watchful eye from behind the bar, while European-styled chandeliers hover overhead. Rich comforting hues of classic navy, deep reds and dazzling golds flourish, while comfortable seating beckons one to stay longer. This oasis is sure to please and certain to satisfy even the most discriminating taste.

As if hearing the tunes of David Wilson wasn’t enough to get you into the doors of Bistro Garden, the establishment also features a reasonable Happy Hour menu.
Monday through Friday from 4 – 6:30 P.M., all well and call drinks are served at a substantial discounted fare. Try the house Cabernet, Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Pinot Grigio or sparkling wine options. Draft ales are on the list too!

If whetting your whistle isn’t enough, the bar bites should take care of that. Mouthwatering Rotisserie Chicken Quesadillas with chilled sour cream and guacamole satisfy that craving before dinner with the combination of flavors, textures, and temperatures.

The Fresh Salmon Tartar on Crispy brioche with Arugula Vinaigrette was a nice contract to the wines were enjoying during this visit and were a welcomed treat with the chilled salmon tartar and vibrant zip of the vinaigrette accompaniment.

Have a hankering for something more traditional? Try the Gourmet Grilled Cheese Sandwiches with a Warm Cup of Tomato Soup. Presented in a more modern style, this is something anyone would welcome to warm the soul and soothe the tastebuds while sipping on a libation from the bar.

Other great flavor compilations include the Trio of Sliders with beef, lamb, and turkey that you’re sure to not go wrong with. How about the Basket of Sweet Potato Fries with a creamy ranch dressing? We also personally love the Fresh Salmon Tartar on Crispy Brioche selection with a savory arugula vinaigrette.
Below, we indulged in the Seared Ahi Tuna Tacos in Crispy Wonton Shells with a Sesame Slaw and Mango Pineapple Salsa.

Another flavor celebration is the Shredded Marinated Short Ribs with Avocado and Salsa Fresca on House made Tortilla Chips. Not only does this encompass flavors from a multitude of items, but its visual appeal is also striking with rich hies of red bell pepper, purple onion, and bright green avocado. All delicious, always made fresh, and always perfect pairings with any of the Happy Hour libations.

And the Trio of Sliders with beef, lamb and turkey samplings was a fine idea for satisfying cravings before dinner later in the evening. The burger was covered in a double patty, double cheddar cheese display, while the lamb burger had a chilled yogurt sauce, while the turkey was joined by a dollop of red pepper preserves to give the mild turkey flavor a kick.

The service and hospitality at Bistro Garden are impeccable. Since becoming regulars at this elegantly posh establishment, the staff has made a point to get to know our names and remember what our favorite beverages are. Most times, we don’t even have to ask. They just know.
Fransisco, the mixologist behind the bar with his friendly and outgoing personality, is always ready to take your order. His sincerity and attention to detail are flawless, while Maurice, the Maître ‘D with his classic demeanor, oversees all aspects of the establishment.

Bistro Garden’s upscale splendor and the marvelous talents of musician David Wilson keep us returning week after week. The ambiance is delightful and welcoming, the entertainment impressive and the cuisine fits right in there at a level of elevated lounge bites gone mainstream.
